Everton rounded off the transfer window with two deadline day signings.
Idrissa Gueye completed his protracted Goodison Park homecoming, three years after leaving the club, from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial £2 million.
The Senegal international signed a two-year contract on Thursday to become the seventh of the summer transfer window for Frank Lampard’s side.
He said: “Coming back here was important to me because I feel like I’m in my home.
“I’ve followed the team every week and watched how they play. For me, there is no better place than Everton, so that’s why I chose to come back here.
“There is also a great atmosphere at the stadium and everyone here is like a family. I felt very, very good when I was here [the first time].
“Even when I went to Paris, I kept in touch with some of the players here and continued to support the team.
“For me, it’s special. I told PSG if I am going to leave it will be for one team – and that was Everton.”
Joining Gueye in making a late move to the blue half of Merseyside was James Garner, who arrived from Manchester United in a £15.5M transfer.
Everton agreed an initial payment of £9M for the Birkenhead-born midfielder, who signed a four-year deal, with a further £6.5M in potential future add-ons.
