Everton midfielder set for deadline day exit

Andre Gomes is on the verge of sealing a deadline day exit from Everton.

Gomes has two years remaining on his current deal at Goodison Park but opportunities are set to prove increasingly limited in the midfield role.

The Blues tied up the signing of Amadou Onana earlier in the window while deals for James Garner and Idrissa Gueye are understood to be imminent.

As a result, Gomes was given permission to leave training with Frank Lampard’s side early on Thursday to pursue a move with an unnamed club.

L’Equipe have since claimed that Lille are the interested party as they seek to fill their midfield deficit by signing the out-of-favour Portugal international.

The Ligue 1 outfit saw a trio of departures this summer with Onana joining Everton while Renato Sanches and Xeka also left the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Gomes made 100 appearances in four years on Merseyside, having joined on loan from Barcelona in 2018 before sealing a permanent move a year later.

But the 29-year-old’s playing time was heavily restricted by a lengthy injury suffered in a challenge by Tottenham’s Son Heung-min in November 2019.
