Everton will ask the Premier League’s referee body for an explanation as to why they were not awarded a penalty in Sunday’s Merseyside derby.
Anthony Gordon was pushed by Joel Matip in Liverpool’s area during the second half of the hosts’ eventual 2-0 victory over their local rivals.
Referee Stuart Attwell did not award a spot kick or issue a second yellow card to Gordon following the incident, which was not subject to a VAR assessment.
Frank Lampard later lamented the ruling in his post-match assessment.
“It is a penalty for me. You don’t get them here,” he said at the time.
“If that was Mo Salah at the other end he gets a penalty.
“I’m not trying to create conflict; it’s just the reality of football. I have played in teams in the top half of the league – you get them.
“That was a penalty for sure. It’s a clear foul.”
The Blues are now seeking answers from Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), who are responsible for regulating top-flight match officials.
Lampard and Bill Kenwright previously received an apology from its chief Mike Riley for failing to award a penalty in February’s defeat to Manchester City.
