Everton lose double Allan red card appeal

Everton have seen their appeal against Allan’s sending-off against Newcastle United rejected.

The midfielder was dismissed late into Thursday’s eventual 1-0 win for Frank Lampard’s side after bringing down Allan Saint-Maximin on the halfway line.

Referee Craig Pawson initially meted out a yellow card to Allan before being urged to consult the pitch side monitor by the VAR operator Stuart Attwell.

Pawson subsequently rescinded the Brazillian’s caution in favour of a straight dismissal, which automatically ruled him out of the Blues’ next three games.

Goodison Park chiefs attempted to have Allan’s suspension quashed when the decision was heard by an independent regulatory commission on Friday.

But the panel elected to uphold the original decision as well as Everton’s appeal against the severity of the 31-year-old’s three-man suspension.

It means Everton will be without Allan for this weekend’s FA Cup quarter final at Crystal Palace and their Premier League trips to West Ham and Burnley.

Speaking earlier on Friday, Lampard insisted that he did not want another apology from referees’ chief Mike Riley as a result of this latest controversy.

He said: “We had a really bad decision against us, which we had an apology for. But apologies don’t mean points.

“There was nothing from that other than a ‘Thanks very much’. This one there is no need for an apology.

“It wasn’t a decision that should have been changed to a red card. It was very clear from my end.

“In the cold light of day, that is not a red card and we don’t want to lose Allan for three games and now we are in their (the independent panel) hands.

“With hindsight look at the decision and was it enough to warrant a red card? For me it wasn’t.”
