Kenwright faces Everton fans after protests

Bill Kenwright spoke face-to-face with Everton fans after a day of protests.

A banner flown before Saturday’s loss to Aston Villa decried the chairman’s ’22 years of failure’ while supporters staged a sit-in demonstration afterwards.

Chants of ‘Sack the board’ and ‘Let go if you love the club’ were aired by several hundred fans in the Park and Gwladys Street ends for over an hour.

Kenwright also faced opposition from some supporters as he was leaving Goodison Park and addressed to some of the concerns which were raised.

In a video shared on social media, the Everton chairman responded to those questioning him about a lack of tangible progress since the 1995 FA Cup win.

“It’s not 27 years,” insisted Kenwright.

“We’ve had some good times.”

Duncan Ferguson, Everton’s caretaker manager, defended the fans’ right to protest in the aftermath of his side’s third straight Premier League defeat.

He said: “The fans, for me, can protest and say what they want.

“Because it is their club at the end of the day.

“They have a right to support their club in any way, shape or form they want.”
