Sharp promoted to Everton boardroom

Everton legend Graeme Sharp has joined the club’s board of directors.

Sharp will serve a non-executive role in the Goodison Park hierarchy but has relinquished his duties as a club ambassador, a position he held since 2000.

The former Scotland international remains the second-highest goalscorer in the Blues’ history with only Dixie Dean amassing more than his haul of 159.

During an 11-year spell, Sharp made 447 appearances and won four major trophies as a talisman figure in Howard Kendall’s all-conquering 1980s side.

He later went onto enjoy spells in management with Oldham Athletic and Bangor City before combining his ambassadorial duties with media punditry.

“This club is in my blood,” said Sharp.

“I have enjoyed many great days as a Blue – and joining the board and being able to play a part in shaping Everton’s future is one of the greatest honours of all.

“I look forward to working with my fellow board members and take my responsibility as a custodian of our great club very seriously.”

It is understood that the 61-year-old’s elevation to a boardroom position is unconnected to Everton’s ongoing strategic review of their football operations.
