Everton’s match against Leicester City postponed

The Premier League has postponed Everton’s game with Leicester City.

Sunday’s scheduled meeting at Goodison Park came against a backdrop of uncertainty amid the visitors’ squad suffering an outbreak of Covid-19 cases.

Brendan Rodgers’ side applied for the game with the Blues to be postponed, which came after their upcoming match with Tottenham had been called off.

The Premier League confirmed the Foxes’ request had been accepted due to them having ‘an insufficient number of players available to fulfil the game’.

A total of six top-flight fixtures had to be cancelled, leaving only five matches from this weekend’s originally planned line-up still unaffected at this stage.

Everton’s trip to Chelsea, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was one of only two games which went ahead on Thursday evening in light of the postponements.

“Everton appreciates that there will be many supporters who will be inconvenienced with the fixture postponement and we sincerely apologise for the disruption, which was out of our control,” read a club statement.

“But we respect the Premier League’s decision and acknowledge that the health and safety of both clubs’ players and staff must always come first.

“An announcement on the rearranged match details will be confirmed and communicated in due course.”
