Carlo Ancelotti is ’embarrassed’ by Everton’s ninth home defeat of the season.
Sunday’s 1-0 reversal to Sheffield United became only the fifth campaign in the Blues’ history that they have suffered as many losses at Goodison Park.
The result effectively ended Ancelotti’s hopes of European qualification this term ahead of fans’ return for the club’s final home game against Wolves.
And the Everton manager admitted that he takes responsibility for the languid display which saw the already relegated Blades secure maximum points.
“I have to take responsibility for this, I hope the players also take responsibility – but I am really embarrassed,” said Ancelotti.
“Fortunately I think the next game we have supporters at home. I hope that they wake us up because I think we need to wake up at home.
“For next season we are going to change. We have to analyse the season.
“Certain aspects are really good – away we did fantastic results, at home really bad.
“To be ready for Europe you have to be in Europe. We have to try to win the two games and see if we are in Europe or not.
“If we are we will build a squad to be in Europe. If we’re not we’ll build a squad to be better in the Premier League.”
