Ancelotti reveals Digne contract progress

Carlo Ancelotti expects Lucas Digne’s new Everton deal to be finalised soon.

Discussions over an extension to Digne’s existing five-year contract at Goodison Park, signed on his summer 2018 arrival, opened six weeks ago.

But the France international, an integral figure under Ancelotti this season, is set to finalise an agreement to cement his future to the Blues imminently.

He will become the second Everton defender to sign under improved terms this season following Michael Keane’s four-year extension last August.

“I’m not in there (the negotiations) but I think they agreed,” said Ancelotti.

“Next week, I think, he is going to sign officially the new contract.”

Ancelotti also revealed on Friday that midfielder Jean Philippe-Gbamin is continuing to make steady progress in his long-awaited road to recovery.

However the Italian still admitted that the former Mainz player, who last featured for Everton in August 2019, is a month away from first-team action.

He added: “He is working and training individually and everything is going well.

“He is to start training with the team in 10-15 days and then to play in a month.”
