Everton draw Man City in FA Cup last eight

Everton have been drawn against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter final.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side reached the last eight of the world’s most famous club cup competition after a thrilling 5-4 win against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Now the Blues will take on the Premier League leaders at Goodison Park, their third consecutive home tie, on the weekend of March 20.

Both teams are set to face off at Goodison next Wednesday in the Premier League, which was rescheduled following December’s postponed meeting.

A coronavirus outbreak within City’s first-team squad forced the original game to be called off a mere four hours before its intended kick-off time.

As a result of next month’s clash, Everton’s trip to West Bromwich Albion will now be pencilled in for a later date in the current campaign.

Everton won their second FA Cup by overcoming City in the 1933 final, courtesy of goals from Jimmy Stein and a brace by the legendary Dixie Dean.

The North West counterparts have faced off a further nine times in this competition with the Toffees emerging victorious on three of those occasions.

More recently, they did battle in the 2016 League Cup semi-final as City reached the Wembley showpiece thanks to a 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

“We are going to play the most difficult team in this period,” said Ancelotti.

“I think it’s really exciting for us to play a quarter final against Manchester City.

“If you want to win a cup [in England], you have to beat Manchester City.”
