Joshua King has admitted that he could not turn down a move to Everton.
King was a late deadline day arrival at Goodison Park from Bournemouth in a short-term deal until the end of the season which could be worth £5 million.
The Norway international made his Blues’ debut with a substitute appearance in the closing stages of their 2-1 win over Leeds United on Wednesday night.
Explaining his reason for moving to Merseyside, King revealed that the chance to link up with Carlo Ancelotti proved too great a temptation to pass up.
“I got a phone call from the boss, Carlo Ancelotti, and [Director of Football] Marcel Brands,” he told evertontv.
“They kept it quite straight and said I would be given an opportunity and would have to work hard.
“They want me in the squad to help push for the Europa League and Champions League and we are in a good position now.
“I could not turn down playing for Everton and learning from a manager like Carlo, who has won what he has and with his experience.
“He is a big, big name in football.”
The 29-year-old also offered an insight into the attributes he will bring to Everton as they maintain their push for European qualification this term.
He added: “I am quick and powerful and strong and good at driving with the ball and known in the Premier League for having decent goalscoring statistics.
“I was thrilled getting my debut and just have to work hard and learn a lot.
“I can play in any of the front three positions and that helps the depth of the squad.
“I think I can improve as a player and I want to help the team in whatever way the manager sees fit.”
Everton’s game with Manchester City, meanwhile, has been rescheduled.
December’s original Goodison Park fixture was postponed just hours before kick-off due a breakout of positive Covid-19 cases within the visitors’ squad.
Both teams will now face off on February 17, just three days before Ancelotti’s side are set to face Liverpool in the 236th Merseyside derby.
