Jordan Pickford sidelined for Leeds trip

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Jordan Pickford will miss Everton’s game with Leeds.

Pickford suffered a knock to his ribs when making a save during the closing stages of last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

The England international is now set to be absent from the Blues’ trip to Elland Road on Wednesday evening as he recovers from the minor injury.

Understudy goalkeeper Robin Olsen is in line to take Pickford’s place against Marcelo Bielsa’s side and make his sixth Everton appearance of the season.

But Ancelotti is hopeful that his first-choice stopper will be available again for the next Premier League game at Manchester United on Saturday evening.

“We are also without Pickford with a side injury,” confirmed the Everton manager.

“He will not be available for the game but I hope that for Saturday he will be available.

“I think it was a save at the end of the game against Newcastle. I think he touched the post and he had a problem on his rib.

“Robin Olsen will start the game if nothing happens today.”

Olsen broke Pickford’s 120-game unbeaten run in the top flight when he replaced the under-fire goalkeeper for November’s defeat at Newcastle.
