Carlo Ancelotti has refused to confirm if Jordan Pickford will start Evertoin’s game against Newcastle.
Pickford is facing mounting scrutiny after his latest goalkeeping blunder proved costly for the Blues during their midweek draw with Leicester City.
Ancelotti previously took the England international out of the firing line earlier in the season, coincidentally against Saturday’s opposition on November 1.
However the Everton manager remains tight-lipped about either persevering with Pickford or handing a runout to his understudy Robin Olsen instead.
“I am not in the habit of giving the line-up during the press conference,” said Ancelotti.
“Pickford didn’t play vs Newcastle [earlier in the season] for normal rotation.”
Asked whether Pickford would start tomorrow, he added: “I don’t know. I have to think about this.”
Despite the error, Ancelotti still insists Pickford retains the faith of everyone at Everton and believes Olsen’s arrival has provided fresh motivation for him.
“He did a mistake [against Leicester], I think we can say that,” admitted the Italian.
“But this doesn’t change for me, for his teammates, the confidence that we have [in him].
“There is absolutely no doubt on his quality and on his motivation.
“I think there is good competition there and the signing of Olsen helped him to be more motivated and also with less pressure.”
