Everton FC yet to contact Jose Mourinho over vacant managerial role

Everton have not contacted Jose Mourinho over the vacant managerial role at Goodison Park, according to reports in today’s media.

Former Blues boss Roberto Martinez was relieved of his duties on Thursday after a turbulent three-year spell at the club and following Sunday’s season finale- a 3-0 win over Norwich City- attention has now turned to who will replace the outgoing Catalan.

A number of high-profile managers, including Frank De Boer, Ronald Koeman and former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, have been linked with the post in recent days.

However, reports over the weekend suggested that the Blues board, headed by new billionaire backer Farhad Moshiri, had entered shock discussions with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is a free agent after losing his job at Stamford Bridge back in December, but the Portuguese coach is still widely regarded as one of the best in the business.

And although the 53-year-old’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was reportedly at Goodison Park on Sunday- prompting further rumours of an impending move- Sky Sports sources have indicated that Everton are yet to contact Mourinho’s representatives.

Speaking last week, the ex-Porto manager admitted that he didn’t know where he’d be plying his trade next season but expected to be back in work by July.

He said: “I don’t know. I know nothing about it really. I don’t have a club. In July, I will be back.

So we are in May. May to July is nothing. I keep enjoying my life which I’m doing, keep enjoying my family. But in July I am back.”
