Ancelotti lines up first Everton signing

Carlo Ancelotti is set to make Gabriel Magalhaes his first Everton signing.

The Everton manager resisted the temptation to draft in new additions during his first month at the helm which coincided with the January transfer window.

But Ancelotti is preparing to shore up his defensive ranks this summer, beginning with the arrival of Lille’s highly rated centre-back Magalhaes.

Chelsea and Arsenal were previously linked with the Brazil under-20 international but the Blues are confident of winning the race for his signature.

Despite the Premier League remaining on indefinite hiatus due to coronavirus, Goodison Park chiefs are still negotiating a potential deal for Magalhaes.

According to the Guardian, Lille are expected to command a fee in the region of £30 million in order for Everton to land the 22-year-old later this year.

Everton attempted to re-sign Kurt Zouma on a permanent deal last summer following a promising loan spell but failed to prise him away from Chelsea.

Mason Holgate benefited from the inability to source the France international and continued to enjoy a regular role in the heart of defence this season.
