Ancelotti hit with FA misconduct charge

Carlo Ancelotti has been charged with misconduct following Everton’s draw with Manchester United.

Ancelotti was sent off at the final whistle of Sunday’s Goodison Park stalemate for remonstrating with referee Chris Kavanagh over a disallowed winning goal.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s stoppage-time strike had been chalked off just minutes earlier for a controversial offside ruling against Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Italian aired his grievances to Kavanagh and his assistants at full-time and became the first-ever Premier League manager to be dismissed.

He has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the Football Association’s charge but insisted post-match that he did not disrespect the Manchester-born official.

“I asked for an explanation after the game. There was a misunderstanding on the pitch and he sent me off,” said Ancelotti.

“After that I spoke with him calmly in the dressing room. I want to keep our conversation private and now he will make a report for the FA and we will see.

“I didn’t disrespect him but I can understand because, for the referee, there were a lot of important decisions at the end of the game.

“But I didn’t disrespect him.

“It was a difficult decision because they checked the position of Gylfi, and it was offside, but in our opinion it didn’t affect the vision of the goalkeeper.

“In their opinion it affected the vision and movement of the goalkeeper.”
