Everton deny Barcelona bid for Richarlison

Everton have dismissed claims Barcelona have tabled a bid for Richarlison.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that the Spanish champions lodged an £85 million offer for the Blues’ talisman this week which was rejected out of hand.

It was suggested that Richarlison had been identified as a viable option to fill the no.9 void at the Nou Camp following Luis Suarez’s lengthy injury lay-off.

Barca’s sporting director Eric Abical is said to be an admirer of the 22-year-old and alleged to have been rebuffed with a tentative enquiry last summer.

However Goodison Park officials insist that no approaches have yet been made for Richarlison, nor are they set to be entertained anytime soon.

That denial has been echoed by their counterparts in Catalonia, who are understood to have not expressed any interest in the Brazil international.

Relations between Barca and Everton remain on good terms following the moves of Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina to Merseyside in 2018.

Richarlison put pen to paper on a new five-year contract last month which came amid growing interest from Manchester United.

Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands underlined the former Watford man’s importance in the days leading up to that reaffirmed commitment.

,“Richarlison is a key player for us,” he said at the time.

“We have extended his contract because we are looking to the long term, and he is a key element of that.”

Richarlison has scored 10 goals in 27 games for Everton this term and formed a strike partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin since Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival.
