Duncan Ferguson wore a watch belonging to Howard Kendall in Everton’s win over Chelsea.
Ferguson’s closeness to the legendary Blues manager led to him being presented with the Armani timepiece by his widow Lily before Saturday’s 3-1 victory.
The Everton caretaker oversaw a gutsy performance reminiscent of the ones produced by Kendall’s all-conquering side at their peak in the mid-1980s.
And Ferguson admits that the touching gesture from his former mentor’s family added to an emotional afternoon at Goodison Park against the Londoners.
He said: “Lily gave it to my wife this morning and said she wanted me to wear it on the bench for Howard.
“I loved him. It was very emotional. The watch doesn’t actually work but there you go. It’s nice.
“It’s an amazing feeling, really. To get the result and you could just feel it in the stadium, couldn’t you?
“Everyone was so happy, everything went well.”
