Everton targeting Champions League coach

Everton want Paulo Fonseca to become their new manager this summer.

A decision on Sam Allardyce’s long-term future is expected to be made by the Goodison Park hierarchy at the end of the season, based on current results.

And the Daily Mail claim that Fonseca has been identified as his potential successor.

The 44-year-old was previously linked with the Blues’ hot seat before Allardyce’s appointment in late November after impressing with Shakhtar Donetsk this term.

Under Fonseca’s tenure, the Ukrainian side are currently four points clear in their country’s Premier League and face Roma in the Champions League last 16 tie.

His contract at the Metalist Stadium is set to expire at the end of this season, making him a highly attainable option for Everton to pursue.

Farhad Moshiri is currently undertaking a review of the club’s football operations which has also placed Steve Walsh’s role as director of football under threat.

Walsh oversaw almost £240 million of transfers since joining from Leicester City in 2016 but many of Everton’s big-money signings have failed to perform.
