Allardyce ‘angry’ at Everton surrender against Arsenal

Sam Allardyce revealed how Everton’s defeat at Arsenal made him ‘angry’.

Saturday’s 5-1 hammering condemned the Blues to another win-less trip to north London to continue their dubious record, which stretches back to 1996.

The hosts had taken the lead within just six minutes and piled on the misery further throughout an abject first half at the Emirates Stadium for the visitors.

And Allardyce did not hold back in his assessment on the emotions which he felt after witnessing Everton’s meek surrender in the capital.

He said: “I was angry. I’m still angry.

“We tried to give those instructions with the best information as we can with the time available.

“We set out to play like [Arsenal] but unfortunately Swansea played at the top of their game and we played at the bottom of ours, which means to say any tactics and system that you pick is absolutely worthless if your players don’t play to their best.

“If you play at the Emirates you’ve got to play to your best, if you’re going to get anything out of the game.

“None of our first eleven in the first half, played anywhere near their best. Tumbling goals left, right and centre with our pathetic performance.”

The Everton manager also remained unrepentant about allowing Ademola Lookman to join RB Leipzig on loan following his match-winning exploits.

Lookman scored a decisive late goal against Borussia Moenchengladbach just days after sealing a temporary switch to the Bundesliga outfit.

Asked whether he regretted farming out the winger, Allardyce replied: “No.

“I’ve got Yannick Bolasie who cost 30 million quid and I’ve got Theo Walcott who cost 20 million quid and both of them have got a lot more experience than Ademola Lookman.”

“If you’d put him out there, he wouldn’t have done any better than the rest because they all played crap.”
