Everton complete Eliaquim Mangala loan deal

Everton have completed the signing of Eliaquim Mangala on loan until the end of the season.

The French defender has found himself surplus to requirements at Manchester City following the arrival of Aymeric Laporte.

He had looked set for a move to Newcastle United before Everton moved on deadline day to secure his signature.

That deal was completed before the 11 pm deadline, with Mangala set to wear the number 13 shirt at Goodison Park.

It is believed that the Toffees will not be paying a loan fee but will be covering the entirety of his wages during the loan spell.

The deal is also likely to include the option to make the move permanent should the loan move prove to be successful.

“Everton is a very good team with quality players, and I want to play in a team that has a lot of quality and ambition,” Mangala told evertontv.

“I want to bring my experience and all my energy. There is already quality and experience at the club but it is very important for me to come here and add something more to the team.

“I am fresh and fit and very motivated – and I am very excited about showing my qualities here.

“I am ready to play and ready to win games – like tonight [against Leicester City], that is the most important thing for me.”

Mangala, a left-footed centre-back, fills a hole in the Blues defence, with Ramiro Funes Mori still battling his way back from an injury sustained last year.
