Walcott wants to be part of Everton’s rise

Theo Walcott admits that he wants to be a part of Everton’s resurgence.

The England international became Sam Allardyce’s second January signing when he completed a £20 million move earlier this week from Arsenal.

Walcott’s switch to Goodison Park brought a muted half-season with the Gunners to an end in which he failed to start a single Premier League match.

The versatile forward previously worked with Allardyce during his short-lived spell in charge of England and revealed that a reunion was a driving factor.

However Walcott also admitted that the Blues’ progress on and off the pitch was a greater motivation in his decision to cut ties with the Emirates Stadium.

He said: “After speaking to the gaffer and particularly to Wayne as well, I felt like the club was on the up.

“I felt that with the manager who seems to get the best out of players, especially when first coming in, and just the plans for the future of the club and I felt like I want to be a part of that.

“A fantastic history and I want to make that history present. I want this club to push on and reach the levels like I feel that it can, particularly with the players coming in.

“You can get a sense that it’s a club that financially can attract big players and, for me, that was a main attraction.

“Obviously I had a brief spell with the manager with England and I just felt like I wanted more of that and I want to be part of his plans and part of something that felt right.”
