Romelu Lukaku is considering legal action over claims he left Everton because of ‘voodoo’.
Blues chief Farhad Moshiri made the revelation during Tuesday’s general meeting when asked about the striker’s £75 million summer move to Manchester United.
He claimed that the club exhausted every option in their attempts to keep Lukaku at Goodison Park and, at one point, had the player ready to sign a new contract.
However the scheduled signing in March last year failed to materialise due to events surrounding a phone call made to the Belgium international’s mother.
A representative for Lukaku has strongly denied Moshiri’s claim, insisting that the player chose to leave Everton due to a personal lack of faith in the club.
“Romelu’s decision had nothing to do with voodoo,” the representative is quoted as saying.
“He distances himself from these beliefs and this statement and will now see what judicial steps can be taken in relation to them.
“Romelu is very Catholic and voodoo is not part of his life or his beliefs.
“He simply had no faith in Everton and no confidence in Mr Moshiri’s project. That is why he did not want to sign on any condition.
“He wanted to make the next step in his career and wanted the security to be able to leave.”
