Everton chief Elstone tipped for RFL return

Everton CEO Robert Elstone has been touted for a return to the Rugby Football League.

England’s governing body for rugby league are on the lookout for a new chief executive following the resignation of Nigel Wood earlier this month.

Wood is expected to be appointed the new head of the Rugby League International Federation with Elstone among a host of high-profile names touted.

The 53-year-old previously served as Executive Assistant to the RFL’s chief executive as well as on the board of Super League side Castleford Tigers.

He has spent almost a decade within the Blues’ hierarchy since arriving as Keith Wyness’s deputy in 2005 and was appointed CEO three years later.

Elstone was promoted to the Goodison Park board of directors in 2016 following Farhad Moshiri’s investment as the club’s new majority shareholder.

It is currently unknown whether Elstone, who will speak at Everton’s General Meeting on Tuesday, would be interested in a return to rugby league.
