Allardyce wants sport psychologist to help Everton

Sam Allardyce is preparing to appoint Everton’s first-ever sport psychologist.

Allardyce feels the Blues’ squad are being held back from their full potential by a mental block despite climbing up the Premier League table this weekend.

Saturday’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield saw a once struggling Everton move up to 10th in the league after the former England manager’s first game in charge.

But Allardyce is now keen for his new players to help restore their confidence and belief in a damaging campaign which led to Ronald Koeman’s departure.

He said: “I haven’t got the psychologist yet but I will be (getting one). I am doing it all myself at the minute.

“I think that will be very important. If the brain is clear and positive before the lads go out then they produce a positive performance.

“If the brain is clouded and doubtful you don’t see the player produce the abilities he has got.

“That has obviously been seen on a couple of occasions here with the lack of confidence from the lack of results.”
