Benfica boss joins Everton manager running

Rui Vitoria has emerged as the latest name in the running for Everton manager.

Benfica boss Vitoria is reportedly under consideration by the Blues as their bid to find a replacement for Ronald Koeman enters a sixth consecutive week.

Attention turned to the 47-year-old after Watford denied Marco Silva a chance to take up the vacant hot seat by rejecting several approaches from Goodison Park.

According to the Daily Mirror, Vitoria is keen on a move to the Premier League despite his Benfica side sitting just three points off the Primeira Liga’s summit.

The Lisbon club maintained pressure on leaders Porto with a 6-0 thrashing of Setubal on Sunday, just hours after Everton’s 4-1 hammering by Southampton.

Vitoria has guided Benfica to back-to-back titles as well as the Portuguese Cup and League Cup in his homeland since being appointed manager in 2015.

He has delivered success despite seeing several high-profile figures depart during that time, including Renato Sanches, Victor Lindlof and Ederson.
