Niasse charged by FA over Crystal Palace dive

Oumar Niasse has been charged by the Football Association over Everton’s draw at Crystal Palace.

Niasse won a penalty in the first half of the Blues’ four-goal stalemate at Selhurst Park but the collision with Scott Dann was contested by the home side.

Referee Anthony Taylor found in the Senegal international’s favour in a ruling which has now been subject to retrospective disciplinary action from the FA.

The Everton striker, who scored his side’s second goal, has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge, which could see him become the first player charged under anti-simulation laws.

An FA statement said: “Everton’s Oumar Niasse has been charged for ‘Successful Deception of a Match Official’ following the game against Crystal Palace on 18 November 2017.

“It is alleged he committed an act of simulation which led to a penalty being awarded in the 5th minute of the game.

“Incidents which suggest a match official has been deceived by an act of simulation are referred to a panel consisting of one ex-match official, one ex-manager and one ex-player.

“Each panel member will be asked to review all available video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it was an offence of ‘Successful Deception of a Match Official’.

“Only in circumstances where the panel are unanimous would The FA issue a charge.”

Niasse would be forced to serve a two-game suspension even if the charge is upheld on appeal.
