Unsworth delivers Everton manager hunt update

David Unsworth insists he has heard nothing about the Everton manager’s role.

Unsworth assumed the helm in the wake of Ronald Koeman’s sacking last month and is understood to be on the Blues’ shortlist for the permanent position.

Sam Allardyce and Burnley boss Sean Dyche have both been touted alongside the under-23 coach, who has taken carge of four Everton games to date.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone also emerged as an ambitious choice for the Goodison Park hierarchy to be named as the Dutchman’s successor.

When asked about the current state of play, however, Unsworth replied: “Very much as it was after the game.

“I just continue to do my best, give my all for the club.

“There’s no news to report, I certainly haven’t been told any more on what’s going on.

“I just continue to come in every day, give my best with the staff and the players and we’ll just see where it takes us and what will be, will be.”

Unsworth also took part in Goodison’s annual charity sleepover on Friday night to raise funds and awareness of homelessness for Everton in the Community.

The former Toffees defender joined his backroom staff and the club’s under-23 squad in camping out beneath the Park End for the fundraising effort.

Over £15,000 has been raised by Everton’s official charity as part of the initiative.
