David Unsworth hailed Everton’s fans for inspiring their comeback over Watford.
A sixth straight defeat in all competitions beckoned for the Blues on the back of goals from Richarlison and Christian Kabasele early in the second half.
But goals from Oumar Niasse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a Leighton Baines penalty saw Unsworth’s side climb out of the Premier League’s drop zone.
And the Everton caretaker saluted the Goodison Park crowd for their support as his players took a much-needed move up to 15th place in the league table.
“What we did was we kept going, we kept working and kept running and never gave in,” said Unsworth.
“I thought the fans were brilliant, they didn’t go against us at 2-0 down. They stuck with us, we got a foothold, Oumar got his goal.
From then we played on the front foot, we created opportunities, we get the goal back.
“If anyone is going to score a penalty in last couple of minutes it’s going to be Leighton. So I was delighted he took the ball and hit the back of the net.
“They go up the other end and it was total mix of emotions, it’s despair.
“But we get that bit of luck our performances haven’t had over the period of time and hopefully that can turn our season around.”
Unsworth also admits he is unsure whether he will be in charge of Everton beyond the international break on the back of a first victory.
He added: “Whatever will be will be.
“I have been the proudest man in the world to take charge for the last two weeks and no-one can take that away from me.
“I’m sure I’ll speak to the chairman and owner and I’ll keep giving my best for this wonderful club.”
