Everton have been handed a tough challenge in the Europa League group stages.
Lyon, the competition’s semi-finalists last season, are among the Blues’ opposition in Group E following Friday’s draw in Monaco.
The Ligue 1 side finished fourth last season but were denied a place in the final by Ajax, then captained by new Everton recruit Davy Klaassen.
Also battling Ronald Koeman’s side in Group E will be Atalanta, who also finished fourth in Serie A to secure a first European return in 26 years.
Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol are the final team in the group after overcoming Aberdeen and FC Midtjylland in their qualification play-offs.
“It’s a good, strong [group],” admitted Koeman.
“Lyon is a strong team and Atalanta, the Italian team, but I think it’s all in a good part of Europe. It’s easy to travel.
“Okay, it’s tough but it’s tough for everybody.”
