Jordan Pickford has been handed his first call-up to England’s senior squad.
The goalkeeper became Everton’s joint-record signing earlier this summer following his arrival from Sunderland in a deal worth £30 million.
Gareth Southgate’s decision to reward Pickford comes after an impressive start to his Goodison Park career as well as heroics for the under-21 side.
Pickford left a lasting impression as his country reached the semi-finals of the European U21 Championships before bowing out to Germany on penalties.
Joining the 23-year-old for England’s World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia at the start of next month is fellow Blues’ recruit Michael Keane.
Keane also arrived in a £30m deal, at the time the club’s joint-record signing, and opened his account in last week’s Europa League tie with Hajduk Split.
