UEFA charge Everton FC over Hajduk Split trouble

Everton have been charged over crowd trouble in their Europa League qualifier with Hajduk Split.

UEFA issued proceedings after the Blues’ first leg win over the Croatian side was halted midway through the first half due ugly scenes in the stands.

Travelling Hajduk fans threw objects and surged towards the Goodison Park turf, prompting the referee to temporarily suspend the encounter.

European football’s governing body charged Everton with the throwing objects while their visitors will face punishment for a combined four offences.

They include object-throwing, crowd disturbances, supporter pitch invasion and ‘acts of damages’.

Trouble flared after Michael Keane had handed Everton a 30th-minute lead before the game was halted for up to five minutes.

Ronald Koeman’s side ran out 2-0 winners in the tie, which will conclude in Split next Thursday.
