Everton FC to hold Rhys Jones anniversary tribute

Everton will commemorate Rhys Jones’ 10-year passing in tonight’s Europa League play-off.

The first leg of the tie with Hadjuk Split is set to see a minute of applause take place in memory of the young Blues fan gunned down in Croxteth.

Eleven-year-old Rhys was killed by gun shots fired between rivals gangs from across the car park of the Fir Tree pub on August 22, 2007.

Supporters attending the game at Goodison Park are urged to join in the commemorations when the clock displays the time of 10:01.

An image of the youngster will appear on the stadium’s big screens at the 11th minute – the age at which he was murdered.

Everton’s gesture has been given the backing from members of Rhys’ family, who will be in attendance for the game with the Croatian side.

The club previously led tributes in the immediate aftermath of his passing with a minute’s applause before their Premier League game with Blackburn Rovers.
