Everton FC to entice Rooney with £150k per week offer

Everton will offer Wayne Rooney £150,000 per week to make an emotional return.

The 31-year-old appears set to leave Manchester United this summer after falling down the new Europa League winners’ pecking order under Jose Mourinho.

That has seen him overlooked by England as Gareth Southgate omitted the striker from his squad that will take on France and Scotland next month.

A return to the Blues has been heavily mooted for much of the season and now, according to reports, the club’s hierarchy are determined to bring him back.

Rooney would still be forced to accept a pay cut of around £100,000 on his current salary to rejoin the ranks at Goodison Park following a 13-year absence.

However it may not be enough with offers from the money-spinning Chinese Super League thought to be £480,000 a week – three times Everton’s offer.

Rooney himself hinted earlier this week that he has a decision to make regarding his future, admitting that returning to Merseyside is a possible career option.

Speaking after the Europa League final victory over Ajax, he said: “I’ve played for two Premier League clubs and they’re the only Premier League clubs I’ll play for.

“There are lots of offers on the table, both in England, abroad and, really that’s what I have to decide on.

“I’ve got decisions to make now over the next few weeks, have a word with my family, and then I’ll decide.”
