Ronald Koeman has bemoaned Everton’s defensive errors in their defeat to Tottenham.
Goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli saw the Blues’ final visit to White Hart Lane end in a 3-2 reversal as their nine-game unbeaten run in the Premier League was curtailed.
Romelu Lukaku and Enner Valencia managed to notch conciliatory strikes but neither truly threatened the hosts’ status as run-away leaders in the game.
And Koeman insists that his side can have little complaints about their outcome.
He said: “Spurs were the better team and they had more chances to score.
“We know if you make the mistakes as we did for the second and third goal then you don’t get a point. We had to support Lukaku and we didn’t.
“Our final ball was not good. Lukaku scored a great goal, and is going in a good direction as a football player for us.”
The Everton manager rang the changes for the trip to north London and defended his decision to deploy two holding midfielders in his line-up.
“Our point was to close the line and control the gaps between midfield and defence,” he added.
“We fought until the last second. We could’ve got a point that was not deserved.
“It was a defeat and we have to learn from mistakes.”
