Koeman not interested in Barcelona return

Ronald Koeman insists he is not interested in speculation linking him to Barcelona.

Koeman continues to be touted as a candidate for the current La Liga leaders after Luis Enrique announced his decision to leave at the end of this season.

The Dutchman scored the winning goal in Barca’s maiden European Cup triumph in 1992 but has continually batted away speculation about a potential return.

And the Everton manager emphatically shut down renewed questions about a Nou Camp homecoming ahead of his side’s trip to Tottenham this weekend.

He said: “Every word from my side about Barcelona [previously] is too much.

“I don’t speak about Barcelona.”

Koeman also dismissed questions about a potential move for Wayne Rooney this summer despite publicly admitting this week that the player would make Everton stronger.

Rooney is understood to be considering a return to his former club as he faces a bleak future at Manchester United as Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s understudy.

“I don’t speak any more about Rooney,” added Koeman.

“I have had questions about him several times. He’s a player of United.

“We will see what happens with him in the future.”
