Ronald Koeman has hailed Romelu Lukaku as ‘one of the best’ finishers after writing his name into Everton history.
Lukaku doubled the Blues’ advantage in a 2-0 win over Sunderland with his 60th goal, which equalled Duncan Ferguson’s long-standing Premier League club record.
The Belgium international is also tied with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez as the league’s top scorer this season, edging ahead of Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
Although Koeman admits that he is unsure whether Lukaku will claim the golden boot, the Everton manager could not dispute his front man’s continued qualities.
He said: “It’s a long way to [him] being the top scorer.
“We know you need to work hard. We know one of his big qualities is scoring goals. He’s strong, he’s fast and his finishing is one of the best.
“I think he can improve; in his runs, to give options to the midfield and defenders.
“If you don’t win the ball you can straight press the team like we did in the first half and that was the big difference in the second half.”
