Romelu Lukaku’s former agent has revealed why Everton scrapped Ishak Belfodil’s £10.5 million move from Standard Liege.
Belfodil was due to move to Goodison Park earlier this month after the two clubs agreed the eight-figure fee but Ronald Koeman pulled the plug on the deal.
Questions over the Algeria international’s quality are understood to have been behind the Blues manager’s decision to end the club’s interest in the player.
But Christophe Henrotay, who previously represented Lukaku, claims that misinformation fed to Koeman was the reason why interest in Belfodil cooled.
He also alleges that Everton chairman Bill Kenwright had pledged to make a higher offer for the 25-year-old in a bid to preserve their business relationship.
“I want to keep our good relationship, we are going to make a higher bid [Kenwright], but I’ll remember this for next time,” Henrotay told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“The transfer was put off track, Ronald Koeman suddenly changed his mind.
“He had something wrongly negative briefed on the player, because Belfodil is an exceptional professional.
“Kenwright was a bit bored with the situation because the price now was so high.”
