Phil Jagielka has claimed that Everton’s players ‘keep letting themselves down’.
The Blues continue to struggle for momentum during Ronald Koeman’s debut season in charge after they were held to a 2-2 draw with Hull City on Friday night.
Jagielka’s own form and status as Everton captain have been subject to scrutiny after a catalogue of high-profile errors in games over the past few months.
And the England international admits that he acknowledges the depth of frustration at Goodison Park that the side has failed to build real consistency.
He said: “Frustration is the best word you can use.
“We have shown so many glimpses of being a really top class side in every aspect.
“But then we make sloppy decisions, we have sloppy parts of the game and we keep letting ourselves down. I can understand why there is frustration out there.
“A lot of fans, a lot of people around the club are hoping and expecting this squad to be doing better and more consistent for 90 minutes.
“It is something we have got to sort out. The manager wants to get a couple more players in the squad and change things around.
“It’s still early doors in his managerial reign at Everton but he’s been given a decent squad and that’s where the frustration lies.
“If we look on paper, it’s the best squad for many, many years and we still keep making these errors which makes it harder for us to go and win.”
