Everton FC heroics can spur Barkley on, says Koeman

Ronald Koeman has urged Ross Barkley to use his late heroics for Everton against Hull City as a catalyst for the rest of his season.

Barkley’s 84th-minute header helped secure a late point for the Blues after they had fallen behind on two separate occasions at the KCOM Stadium on Friday.

The England international has been regularly criticised after he found himself both dropped from selection and publicly challenged by Koeman.

But the Everton manager is hopeful Barkley can use the momentum of his moment in the spotlight as he heads into the second half of the campaign.

He said: “I hope that goal really gives Ross a boost.

“He was that player tonight what we expect in his position.

“We spoke about to be more dangerous in front of the goal and to have better offensive movements.

“He was really important in the final part of attacking and scored an important goal for 2-2 in the second half.

“He was dangerous and was that player we need to have that better support for our strikers.”
