Everton FC didn’t deserve a draw, claims Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has bemoaned Everton’s ‘direct’ style and claim they are the latest Premier League team to take an undeserved point off Manchester United.

A late Leighton Baines penalty saw the Blues snatch a draw after trailing to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s opener for most of the second half against the Red Devils.

Mourinho endured a second win-less outing at Goodison Park in 15 months after seeing substitute Marouane Fellani concede the spot kick against his former club.

But the United manager instead chose to turn his ire on Ronald Koeman’s side.

He said: “Everton are not a passing team like they were any more

“Everton is a team that is direct. Everything is direct. Goalkeeper – direct; Ashley Williams – direct, (Ramiro) Funes Mori – direct.

“And when a team is losing and plays direct, intensifies the direct football, and when you have a player on the bench with two metres (Fellaini), you play the player in front of the defensive line to help the team to the match.

“When you play well, there is nothing more you can do. This is what we are doing for a long time.

“Playing well, being better than the opponents, getting draws that deserve victory, opponents leaving the stadium super happy with the point that they don’t deserve, and us leaving the stadium with the feeling we deserve more.”
