Koeman attributes slow starts to Everton FC players

Ronald Koeman believes Everton’s penchant for slow starts may be down to his players.

Manchester United’s visit to Goodison Park this weekend offers the Blues a fresh chance to improve their current record of one win from nine in all competitions.

A common denominator from those recent performances has been Everton’s inability to seize the initiative in matches until after the half-time interval.

“Southampton was really a sloppy start. If not they can’t score after 40 seconds,” said Koeman.

“The Swansea game was difficult because the role of [Gylfi] Sigurdsson makes it difficult for us.

“We need to have that aggression in the game. We have to put ourselves with that aggression. It’s not good that you need something external to bring that aggression.

“Maybe it’s a little bit [down to] the type of players we have and we are trying to change that.”
