Liverpool FC fans slam Ryanair over Europa League price hike

Liverpool supporters have reacted angrily to Ryanair’s decision to increase flight prices to Dortmund, ahead of next month’s Europa League clash.

Reds supporter groups have labelled the actions of Ryanair as “opportunism”, with a return flight from Liverpool set to cost £378 for the April 7th tie.

The budget airline announced last week that it would be chartering a ‘football special’ for the game, however prices have doubled since that announcement.

Roy Bentham of the Spirit of Shankly supporters group said that the issue of flight costs has caused irritation amongst fans.

“It was the main subject of discussion at Southampton on Sunday. Everyone was talking about these ‘special’ flights, and how they keep on rising.”

“To us it looks like opportunism, and a lot of fans are quite angry about it.”

Currently an outbound flight costs £172, with a return the following day at £206, with both flights having to be booked separately, at a total of £378.

Ryanair spokesman Robin Kiely said that the flights were sold on a first come first serve basis an d that many of the cheaper flights had been snapped up.

“Flights are sold on a first come first serve basis, and rise quickly as the lowest fare class are sold. Our Europa League specials have been selling fast since they went on sale.”

Liverpool’s clash with Dortmund will be Jurgen Klopp’s first game back at Signal Iduna Park, following a successful period in charge at Dortmund from 2008-2015.
