Liverpool have been exonerated by UEFA of chants relating to the Munich air disaster in their Europa League encounter with Manchester United.
Both clubs were hit with charges relating to a number of off-field offences during their last 16 encounter at Old Trafford earlier this month with the Reds facing action over a number of incidents, including object-throwing and setting off fireworks in the stadium.
But UEFA has revealed that the charge relating to illicit chants, believed to have related to the 1958 tragedy which cost the lives of eight United players, is more innocuous than originally thought.
Match observers deemed the language used by the travelling supporters in the taunt ‘Manchester is full of s***’ was coarse enough to be deemed illicit.
European football’s governing body have since launched an investigation into accusations that United fans mocked the 1989 Hillsborough disaster across both of the Europa League ties.
