Christmas is the time of the year to eat, drink and be merry and Slims Pork Chop Express have launched an extra special XXXmas feast ahead of the Christmas period.
Located in Seel Street, this is a popular area and the perfect place to start a night out in the City Centre. As if that wasn’t enough, it is literally one door down from Miracle on Seel Street, so if you are really wanting all out festivity then this really is the place to go.
The restaurant looks really small from the outside – however there are two floors of seating and a bar area so there is sure to be enough space for everyone. The decor is dark, simple and edgey, perhaps not for everyone but I really liked it.
The atmosphere is set with some fabulous music – think Arctic Monkeys at their finest and you are along the right tracks.
Slim’s seems to attract a whole host of different age ranges which is a testament to the standard and style of food served. There were young couples, single diners, older people and each and every single person seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The restaurant was described to us as a smoke house with a pan-Asian twist – due to it’s proximity to Liverpool’s China town. A quick look at the standard menu certainly gives a nod to the restaurants location with Spring Rolls featuring on the menu.
From 3pm Monday – Friday and Noon Saturday and Sunday between now and Christmas, you can treat yourself to the XXXmas menu. Priced at £30 for two courses with Prosecco, this seems to be the going rate for special festive menus.
On arrival you are asked to choose your “meats” which are Turkey, Brisket, Pulled pork or Veggie Roast – we tried everything expect for the Veggie Roast. The idea is a “sharing” Christmas dinner, I’m a big fan of sharing food so this was right up my street.
We were served one of the largest platters of food that I’ve ever had in a restaurant, but of course – no complaints on that. The turkey was my favourite meat, layered with Bacon and stuffed with Apricot and Stilton stuffing, this was my ideal taste of Christmas and I could not get enough of it.
You are also served a number of different sides including Smoked pigs in blankets, Cauliflower mac n cheese, Maple bacon sprouts, Mash, Chantenay carrots, Cranberry gravy, Bread Sauce and Stuffing – so everything you would expect from a Christmas dinner and then some. There really is something for everyone on this platter, and every bit of it delicious. A special mention needs to go out to the Maple Bacon Sprouts – they were beyond tasty and I could’ve easily eaten another two portions had my stomach of let me.
There really is enough food on this platter to feed more than 2 people – and it was nearly impossible to finish however I am sure there are some people who will be up to the challenge.
The sharing platter theme then continues on to the pudding. Again, portion size is huge and there really is more than enough for two people. We struggled to finish despite each of the puddings being absolutely delicious.
The platter consists of Brownie, Doughnuts, Mini mince pies and Ice Cream. There are a number of dipping sauces including White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and Raspberry Jam. I particularly enjoyed changing up the flavour combinations when dipping in the doughnuts – I can personally recommend White Chocolate and Raspberry Jam as the best Doughnut flavour combination.
Attention has been paid to the festive theme with the Brownies tasting of Chocolate Oranges – I’d have loved the recipe for these.
In a city as saturated with Restaurants as Liverpool it can be very difficult to stand out from the crowd but Slims Pork Chop Express manages to do so.
Having been to many Christmas parties over the years, it would be fair to say that Slims Pork Chop Express have devised a Christmas menu that is different to any other – not only is it relaxed, it’s shareable and it’s fantastically tasty.
You can tell that effort has been made in the production of the meal and is not the standard, mass produced, food that you may see at other establishments in the city.
Slims Pork Chop Express has me really impressed – and trying to work out when I can go back to try the standard menu!
