Easyjet will soon be launching flights from Liverpool to Venice later this year.
Flying out of John Lennon Airport, the Italian city will become the 29th route operated by the airline giant when it begins its service at the end of October.
Due to commence on October 31, the twice weekly departures are scheduled to take place on Tuesday and Saturdays all year round.
Up to 30,000 passengers are forecast to take the new route between the Speke terminal to Venice, one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, each year.
It is also the seventh Italian destination accessible from Liverpool, with various airlines already operating to Bari, Naples, Pisa, Rome and Milan’s Gergamo and Malpensa airports.
Paul Winfield, Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s Air Service Development Director, said: “This latest commitment by easyJet to Liverpool is great news for the Airport and for the City Region.
“Venice is another new destination to add to the growing list of popular European cities that passengers from across the North West can fly to from Liverpool – the fastest, easiest and friendliest airport in the North West.”
Ali Gayward, Country Manager at easyJet, added: “We’re delighted to be adding Venice to easyJet’s destinations from Liverpool.
“It allows us to further enhance our range of leisure and business destinations from the airport.
“Being one of the most romantic and magical places in the world, Venice often tops peoples list of places to visit at least once in their life.
“It’s also a strong European economic hub and we expect to see plenty of support from the business community on the route.
“This announcement highlights our commitment to providing affordable year round routes to from Liverpool but will also benefit inbound tourism to the city.”
