Sean Lennon has opened a new performance centre in Liverpool named after his mother.
The University of Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon Centre will be home to two lecture theatres, a cafe and The Tung Auditorium, a 400-seat concert hall.
Located on the corner of Grover Street and Oxford Street, where Sean’s ex-Beatle father John was born, it is the university’s latest campus addition.
Speaking at Friday’s official unveiling, Sean said that his mother ‘sends her love to everyone here’ in the city and added “It’s a beautiful building”.
“[My mother] loves this school, she loves this city and she really cares about continuing my father’s legacy in this town,” said the New York-based musician.
“I think for her it means a lot to be recognised this way.
“It’s very nice and it’s about time because often she has been overlooked.”
