Construction starts on new South Liverpool Lidl Store

Lidl GB has announced that construction on its new supermarket on St Marys Road, Garston in Liverpool has begun following permission being granted by planning officers at Liverpool City Council.

Lidl is working with construction firm Braithewaite Fit Out Ltd to build the store, which is planned to open early next year and will replace the former Co-op and the vacant unit next door. The new store will create around 40 jobs for the local community and feature facilities including an in-store bakery, customer toilets and 87 car parking spaces including disabled, parent & child spaces and two rapid electric vehicle charging points.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Stuart Jardine, commented: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now able to break ground and start construction. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

The new supermarket forms part of the company’s ongoing £1.3bn investment across the country in 2021 and 2022. Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s increase in sales year on year and market share of 6.1%.
