Former Merseyside Police chief Norman Bettison is planning to publish a book about the Hillsborough disaster next month.
Bettison was involved in the South Yorkshire force’s respone to the aftermath of the 1989 tragedy which cost the lives of 96 Liverpool fans.
According to publishers Biteback Publishing, ‘Hillsborough Untold’ has been written due to the 60-year-old being “unfairly scapegoated” by the disaster.
He said: “I wrote this account because I did not want my forty-year professional career to be defined by false accusations.
“The book should appeal to anyone with an open mind who remains curious about one of the UK’s most tragic, and controversial, peacetime disasters.”
Bettison is currently under investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission on charges of alleged misconduct.
