Ronald Koeman reveals Everton FC motivation in Idrissa Gueye swoop

Idrissa Gueye’s interception stats were the driving force in Everton’s decision to sign the midfielder.

A £7.1 million move for the Senegal midfielder was finalised earlier today as he penned a four-year contract with the Blues.

Gueye’s statistics for Aston Villa last season were only bettered by N’Golo Kante, Leicester City’s enforcer during their Premier League title win.

He becomes the second signing of Ronald Koeman’s new Goodison Park reign and the Dutchman has revealed his reasons for the swoop.

“Idrissa will provide quality in our squad in the midfield and we want to increase the quality in the team,” said Koeman.

“He was one of the players last season with the best record in interceptions and pressing in the midfield.

“We need this kind of quality and I’m happy to have him joining our club.”
